Dior (or Art to wear...)

(ver no YouTube: aqui)

Still following the previous post about the fascinating world of sewing in general and Draping/Moulage in particular, I can’t resist to share a video that illustrates so well the magic and the fascination under the manufacturing of a Haute Couture piece, which execution passes precisely by the draping and modelling of the fabric directly in the mannequin…
This video shows the making of one of a piece (photo above) from Spring-Summer 2011 Haute Couture collection by Dior with all the amazing gorgeous details (I am forever grateful to my Patternmaking teacher for the suggestion).
Many turns, stitches and hours of work and dedication after, a elaborate and dazzling piece shows up. “Elaborate” and “dazzling” are the words to describe the piece and the process “behind the scenes”. After seeing the first video you will be able to understand how a piece of Haute Couture can be so expensive. Haute Couture is magic and art. And this is art to wear.

The collection is the last by John Galliano as creative director of house Dior and is maybe his best. It is worth to see the whole collection which is amazing (second video). Now try to imagine the work of one piece multiplicated by the whole collection (the coat-dress in question totaled something like 500 hours of work...)

Finally, a third video also about Draping: a modelist at Dior recreating a gown model from 1939. A simpler approach to the Draping concept as explained on my previous post with an equally stunning result…
Hope you enjoy it!
